Almost Stranded

These are some pictures of me and my brother at Franklin D. Roosevelt’s memorial.  There are a lot of things to make this monument stand out.  The layout of it is unique, it is almost like telling a story as you’re walking through it, telling different stories of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s life and the struggles going on in America.  But of course, my little brothers favorite part is the little Scottie dog he is clinging to in this picture.

My family and I have been to this memorial twice because of how much we enjoyed visiting the memorial the first time.  There are a lot of different statues and fountains within the memorial.    We would walk around its maze like features in awe of all of the beautiful fountains.  One of the most famous parts of the memorial is the statue representing the depression, a line of people waiting for bread.  Since we were so young the first time the best part was being able to actually go up and touch the different statues.  But the second time we were there it was a bit more stressful.  We were taking a bus tour and we were on the last bus of the day.  It had been raining all day on us but we trekked through it to get to the memorial.  Since it was so hot every other day and at almost all the memorials we went to we sort of relaxed and took in the scenery and the story around us.

So, my aunt looks at her watch, we have 5 minutes to make it ALL the way back to the bus stop.  My brother and I thought it was hilarious that we were going to get stranded in DC so we sort of took our time.  My aunt is yelling at us frustrated as we’re laughing.  It was nice to have something to joke about with my pesky little brother who just wants to make this trip a nightmare for me.  Or, that’s the way it seemed as a young teenager.  On our adventures to DC this is the only place we repeated because it was a family favorite to explore and sort of relax by the fountains.  But, this is just one of the many amazing national monuments to visit while in DC.  I can’t wait for the opportunity to go back and visit all of my family’s favorite spots.
